New features, improvements, and fixes across GeMS.
The Data Browser's map is now a full view alongside List and Tiles, showing every dataset that matches your filters as its true outline (colour-coded by data type) instead of one page of rectangles at a time. Hover a footprint for its name, date, description, size, and type; click overlapping footprints to pick from a list; and drag a rectangle to select datasets right on the map — selections stay in sync with the checkboxes in the other views. The export tool's dataset picker gained type, site, and date filters, and facilities are now called sites throughout.
Vegetation encroachments and sag spans now have checkboxes in the Corridor Viewer's sidebars, and the report builder gained a matching picker with search, severity and survey filters, and select-all — so a report or CSV export contains exactly the items you chose, in every format. The assistant understands it too: ask it to “select the 5 closest vegetation encroachments and output a report” and the report builder opens on the preview with just those items selected, or ask for “just the CSV” and it hands you the file directly — including from Teams.
Uploading data now starts from five clear choices — AIM LiDAR, Environmental LiDAR, Gaussian Splat Capture, Environmental Management, and Tower Editor GeoJSON Import — instead of a card per app, and options that never accepted uploads are gone. Uploading from inside an app opens the same wizard in a dialog with the application and location already filled in from where you are, so a capture uploaded from a monitored location lands on that location automatically.
Vegetation and sag questions now answer from the surveys currently loaded in your viewer, and say so — ask “across all surveys” (or tap the suggested chip) to search everything. Navigation works the other way too: open the Corridor Viewer from an answer and it arrives with those surveys already selected and the matching tool open. The assistant panel also stays open across the move, so the answer is still there when the viewer loads.
The report wizard's final step now finishes the job: after previewing, the primary button runs the export you chose — Print, PDF, CSV, Word, or Excel — and closes when it succeeds, instead of leaving you to go back a step. Errors now show on the preview too.
Photo pins in the inspection viewer now rise to the height the drone captured them at once terrain finishes loading, instead of sitting on the ground — so a tower's photo set hovers around the structure the way it was flown.
The Corridor and LiDAR viewers now carry their own map-projection definitions for the coordinate systems our surveys use, instead of fetching them from an external service every time. If imagery still can't load, the viewer now says so in its warning strip rather than showing bare ground.
The satellite basemap and world terrain now load correctly in the LVIA, corridor, and lidar viewers on hosted environments — previously the area outside high-detail coverage could render as a blank blue globe.
The LVIA viewer gained a Street View button next to the street-level tool: click a road and the view wraps you in the real Google Street View photo from that spot, with the proposed turbines and infrastructure drawn over it. Drag to look around, scroll to zoom, and Esc (or the ✕) flies you back out to the map just like leaving street level.
The Upload Progress page is now Job Progress: your data exports appear in the same list as your uploads, newest first, instead of in a separate section at the bottom. A new Type filter narrows the list to uploads or exports only, and export downloads, retries, and cancellations work right from the list.
The notifications dropdown is wider so message text no longer gets clipped at the right edge, and long lists now scroll within the panel — which can grow to most of the screen — instead of pushing the “All notifications” and “Upload progress” buttons out of reach.
In the report wizard, the preview step now comes after choosing an export format, and notes what that format will contain. The page preview also scales to fit the window, so it no longer spills past the edge of the dialog.
Opening the Corridor Viewer now pre-selects the top survey for your current location (or the top of the full list), so the viewer shows data right away instead of starting empty. The Splat Viewer's panel also moved to the left side, matching the other AIM tools.
Asset inspections are listed alongside your other data in the portal's Data view, filterable under the new “Inspection” type. Each one shows its inspection date, workflow status, photo count and combined photo size, and — where the photos carry GPS — its extent on the map panel. Inspections can be deleted from there like any other data item; deleting removes the inspection along with its photos, findings, and work orders.
The upload wizard's location step now has an “Add new location” card. Give the site a name, an optional region, and a point on the map's coordinates, and it's created for your organization and selected for the upload right away — no need to go set it up in another app first. You can refine its boundary later from the Environmental Management location picker.
Uploading a trained 3D Gaussian Splat now offers the NAD83(CSRS) UTM zones covering the Maritimes and Newfoundland, and picking “Other” takes an exact EPSG code checked before the upload starts instead of failing during processing. The wizard also warns when a PLY's coordinates look like a local frame that no coordinate system could place on the map.
The Wildfire & Change Detection app gained two satellite layers, each with its own sidebar toggle: a fire heatmap showing thermal hotspots detected on the most recent satellite passes (NASA VIIRS), and smoke plumes from NOAA's smoke analysis, shaded light to heavy. Both are on by default and update through the day.
Portal cards now highlight in their own color when hovered instead of always turning blue. The Manage Roles editor in the Control Center gained a Select all / Clear all shortcut for each resource section. Report previews now display on a proper sheet of paper instead of a bare white panel.
Uploads to the Splat Viewer, Corridor Viewer, and LiDAR Viewer now include a site-selection step, so new data lands at the right location from the start. Choosing a site is optional — skip it and the data shows under "Unknown" until you assign one in the portal's Data view.
The Corridor Viewer, LiDAR Viewer, and Splat Viewer now have a location dropdown that narrows their data lists to a single site. Data without an assigned site appears under "Unknown" — assign locations to it from the portal's Data view and it moves to the right site automatically.
Sites are now visible to everyone in your organization, wherever locations appear — the Environmental Management workspace and the portal's Data view site picker. Anyone with editing rights can create, update, or manage any site, so teams work from one shared list instead of personal copies.
In the portal's Data view, select multiple items and use the new Set location button to assign them all to a site at once (or clear them back to Unassigned). Combine it with the sidebar's Unassigned filter to quickly organize data that isn't tied to a site yet.
The notifications dropdown in the header now matches the rest of the site — cleaner layout, clearer unread highlighting, and a tidier empty state.
Newly processed 3D capture (Gaussian splat) scenes now settle onto the terrain by themselves when loaded, instead of floating at the height recorded by the drone and needing a manual adjustment. The height slider is still there for fine-tuning, and older scenes keep working exactly as before.
The read-only LVIA scene viewer now lives inside both workspaces — pick it from the AIM tool strip or the Environmental Management sidebar to present viewpoints and camera tours without leaving the workspace. The standalone LVIA Viewer app is unchanged.
The Water Loggers charts bar now slides up beside the sidebar over the map instead of pushing it aside, with the chart tabs and time range built into its header — switching tabs works even while the bar is tucked away. Sensor and station cards match the app-wide panel styling. Birdsong's details panel stays out of the way until you select an event, then opens automatically. Settings dialogs for both apps match the site theme, with the settings gear now next to the app title in the sidebar. Wildfire's fire-search distance and site conditions moved to the left sidebar alongside the layer list, and the map now shows every active fire across Newfoundland and Labrador — the distance filter controls which fires appear in the list. Sub-apps that aren't ready yet are hidden until they have real content.
The Type, Site, Status, and Date filters in the Data Browser now live in the left sidebar underneath the view buttons, in the same place and style as the filters in the Applications and Tools views — one consistent sidebar instead of a separate filter column. Each filter section can be collapsed on its own to keep the sidebar tidy.
3D capture (Gaussian splat) scenes now render with full view-dependent color, so reflective surfaces like steel towers, water, and wet rock shift naturally as you orbit instead of looking flat. Scenes also render at your display's native resolution while open, and the dark speckling that could appear across a scene is gone.
Generating a PDF, Excel, or Word report now sends a notification when it's ready, with a link straight to the download — handy if you start a report and move on to something else. If a report fails to generate, you'll be notified of that too, including by email.
A new notification bell in the header keeps you up to date on your work. Notifications now arrive the moment something finishes — even if you were on another page — and they no longer disappear when you reload or close the tab. Data processing and exports tell you when they are ready or if something went wrong, with a link straight to the result, and failures also reach you by email so you hear about them when you are away from GeMS. Open "All notifications" from the bell to browse everything you have received, filter to unread, and mark items as read. You will also see a note when GeMS itself has been updated since your last sign-in, linking to what changed.
The Wildfire & Change Detection app now shows real, continuously updated data from public Canadian sources: active fire locations near your site (with size, status, and distance), areas burned so far this season drawn on the map, and current wind speed and direction — both at your site and at each nearby fire, with arrows on the map showing where the wind is blowing. Pick a search radius, click a fire in the list or on the globe to fly to it, and see its details and local conditions.
Water level, hydrometric, and climate charts in the Water Loggers app now live in a collapsible panel along the bottom of the map, giving time series the full width of your screen instead of a narrow side column. Collapse the panel to a slim bar when you want the whole map; the sensor list, batteries, and export stay in the left panel, and the settings gear is now in the chart panel's header.
The portal's Data and Map tabs have been replaced by a single Data Explorer. Every dataset in your organization appears in one searchable list — filter by type, site, status, or date; switch between table and card views; and watch uploads appear the moment they start, with clear status badges when something is still processing or needs attention. You can now rename datasets, edit their details, move them between sites (or create a new site on the spot), export selections through the export wizard, and delete data you no longer need — with confirmation. A collapsible map panel shows where your filtered data sits on the globe: hover a row to highlight its footprint, or click a footprint to open its details.
File Transfers is now called File Export, and covers far more of what you upload. New formats include Shapefile, CSV, COPC point clouds, PMTiles, glTF models, 3D Tiles, and the original uploaded file. Exports also stay in a new history list, so you can leave the page and come back to download a bundle again, retry one that failed, or cancel one still running.
Environmental Monitoring gains two new sub-apps: Point Clouds for inspecting LiDAR captured at your selected location, and Gaussian Splats for photorealistic 3D captures streamed onto the globe. Both show only the data at the location you're working in, and switching between sub-apps no longer reloads the 3D view.
The Gaussian-splat capture viewer is now available as a tool inside the AIM workspace, sharing the same globe as the other AIM tools, and its camera now frames scenes correctly on opening.
The GeMS assistant can now report the status of your recent uploads — ask “did my upload finish?” to get a live summary with a link to the Upload Progress page.
Opening a completed LiDAR upload from the progress page now lands directly on its survey in the Corridor Viewer instead of the app's start screen.
The upload progress page now shows plain-language details — who uploaded a file, its type, and when — with friendlier status labels, a new Cancelled filter, and clearer wording throughout the export wizard.
Environmental Monitoring now accepts wide-format instrument CSVs, derives observed properties automatically from imported readings, and presents alerts in a single consolidated panel.
Attach a file in a Teams conversation with the GeMS assistant and it lands directly in GeMS. In-app chat uploads now let you choose which application the file goes to.
Every data card the assistant produces — inspections, findings, users, vegetation results — can now be exported to CSV with one click.
The tower viewers gained a distance-based level-of-detail system and higher-fidelity wire rendering, keeping large networks smooth without sacrificing close-up detail.
Scene terrain and imagery can now be edited directly inside the LVIA studio, and live water-level report cards are available through the assistant.
A new Compare Surfaces panel computes survey-to-survey elevation change and renders it as a heatmap layer. Teams conversations with the assistant now persist across sessions, with a built-in business switcher.
The upload wizard now accepts bathymetry and InSAR products for Environmental Monitoring, and trigger-action response plans were renamed to the clearer “alert rules.”
Full-resolution 360° Street View panoramas can be opened directly inside an LVIA scene, making it easy to compare the modelled view against real photography from the same spot.
Environmental Monitoring layer visibility is now saved per user, with an option to publish a default view for your team. EM data uploads were merged into the general Upload Wizard for one consistent flow.
Project reviewers can now access LVIA scenes through a dedicated, access-controlled viewer — no GeMS account required. KML layout import brings turbine positions, transmission lines, and marked areas straight into a scene.
Tailings layers gained a map timeline, depth-aware rendering, and polygon clipping, alongside a unified Add Data wizard for all data entry.
Multibeam bathymetry ingest produces elevation-change heatmaps between surveys and reconciles volumes across survey pairs.
Water Logger subscribers can choose daily digests or on-change notifications. Environmental Monitoring added lease-line compliance boundaries and opt-in monthly InSAR auto-refresh over a site footprint.
A new export wizard assembles GISTM-aligned data packs from Tailings records in a few clicks.
LVIA scenes now render animated, manufacturer-accurate turbine models (Vestas V162, Nordex N175) with realistic tower models and a Quality/Performance render preset toggle.
